In 2003, Satek Monastry was offered to the Lord of Refuge Thrangu Rinpoche. Rinpoche has several purpose in mind for building the monastry. First, there is an important stupa there which contains many very sacred relics and a temple nearby. There were built despite great difficulties and toil by the geat meditator Khedrup Karma Lobsang and otehr great beings. Where it is undiminished, the tradition resulting from these great efforts should be expanded, and where it has weakened, it should be restored.

In order to keep the cost to a minimum , all neccassary contruction matericals have to be taken by the porters, donkeys or horses for 7 days walk from Kathmandu to Satek. The entire project is expected to be completed in 3 years.
